The big data revolution has changed our daily decisions in two important ways.  First, new smart phone applications and internet search tools, allow easy checking that simplify many choice tasks. Second, the availability of large data sets and the Internet of things technology provide more complete feedback.  For example, using often-installed navigation tools, like Waze or Google maps, not only allows easy checking of the expected driving time, but also provides precise feedback concerning the actual driving time, and the traffic situation in other routes. Recent research suggests, however, that in certain cases people do not use easy-click decisions aids even when these tools simplify the choice task and maximizes the expected return. In the current talk I will present different experiments that investigate the robustness of the tendency to avoid effective easy click decision aids, and suggest some possible solutions.

Cluster analysis over time: Everything flows, yet is traceable

Cluster analysis is used for grouping a set of objects in such a way that objects, i.e., customers, observations, participants, in the same group are more similar to each other than to those in other groups.Cluster analysis is usually performed at a specific point in time, without taking into account previous cluster analysis products. This study addresses this issue and presents a method for cluster analysis over time that brings new and meaningful insights.

The purpose of this article is to summarize the current research in the field of complaint handling, specifically to focus on how the organizational response to a customer complaint affects the postcomplaint customer behavior. A model framework is presented that divides these organizational responses into six separate dimensions (timeliness, facilitation, redress, apology, credibility, and attentiveness) and takes an in-depth look at each dimension in turn. Major questions and conclusions are presented for each dimension, which attempt to clarify what is really known or not known about the effect of that dimension on postcomplaint customer behavior. Special topics of future areas of research are discussed and a revised framework is presented to facilitate future research.

Despite some decline in the death rate from coronary heart disease (CHD) in recent years, it remains a major cause of mortality among America adults. While the number of deaths is declining, the number of people becoming ill is rising, mainly for the following reasons: (1) the western life style (high fat food, poor physical fitness, stress), (2) the increased life expectancy, which increases the number of adults with CHD, and (3) major advances in cardiovascular treatment, which reduce the death rate but increase the number of the persons incapacitated by failing hearts.

This mixed blessing, the decline in absolute deaths from the disease and the rise in the number of people suffering from CHD, has a major economic and social impact. It reflects the price of keeping more people alive (yet ill) – the hospitalization and medical costs and the loss of work days, all of which are a major burden on the health and national budget.

CHD is a preventable disease, insofar as early and proper treatment of the risk factors is likely to prevent or delay its development and impact. Thus, healthcare providers spend more money in early detection and reduction of risk factor of cardiovascular causes as an alternative to the expensive treatments needed for the patients stricken by the disease.

Over the years, the Framingham Heart Study, a longitudinal research project that began in 1948 on over 5000 people from Framingham, Massachusetts, USA, has produced a model for assessing the health factors that contribute to increasing the probability of developing CHD. The Framingham model, which provides simple equations for evaluating the risk of the disease given levels of risk factors, is considered today the primary and most accurate model for identifying heart and cardiovascular diseases among the population while applying statistical prediction for those tested to get the illness.

The objective of the present research is to improve the ability to predict CHD risk by applying advanced data mining (DM) methods. The improvement lies in the focus on high-risk groups in order to provide them with more efficient preventive treatment. Results obtained from our study were compared to those obtained by the Framingham equation (as well as to the actual results). Using the Framingham data and applying the DM methods yielded an improvement in the predictability of the Framingham model.

Entering New Markets: The Effect of Performance Feedback Near Aspiration and Well Below and Above It

This study draws on the resource based view and the behavioral theory of the firm to gain new insights about the effect of performance relative to aspiration level (i.e., performance feedback) on the decision to enter new markets. Results show an inverted U-shaped relationship between performance both below and above aspiration level and the probability of firms to enter new markets. That is, when firms are well below or well above their aspiration level, they significantly change their behavior. This paper develops a theoretical framework to clarify and organize these findings.

Consistent or Not? The Role of Product Visibility in Identity Related Sequential Decisions

In the present research, we focus on the effect of product visibility on the communication of personal and social identities.

Consumption of visible products has been shown to communicate both types of identities (Berger and Heath 2007; Chan et al. 2012; Chan et al. 2012; Griskevicius et al. 2007). For example, a unique t-shirt might help to express one’s personal identity, whereas a t-shirt displaying the logo of one’s favorite sports team might help to express a social identity. we propose that when individuals are faced with sequential decisions regarding products related to their social or personal identities, their likelihood of making consistent or inconsistent decisions—specifically, decisions that consistently reflect the same identity (or inconsistent decisions that reflect different identities)—is influenced by product visibilityץ A set of experiments and an internal meta-analysis show that when the  product involved in the first decision in the sequence is of high-visibility, consumers tend to self-monitor their behavior and express a consistent identity along the sequence.

Ten Million Readers Can’t Be Wrong!”, or Can They? On the Role of Information about” Adoption Stock in New Product Trial

Most new-product frameworks in marketing and economics as well as lay beliefs and practices hold that the larger the stock of adoption of a new product, the greater the likelihood of additional adoption. Less is known about the underlying mechanisms as well as the conditions under which this central assumption holds. In a series of field and consequential choice experiments I demonstrate the existence of non-positive and even negative effects of large adoption stock information on the likelihood of subsequent adoption. The results highlight the degree of homophily with the adopting stock as well as the level of customer uncertainty as key characteristics determining the nature of the effect of stock information. In particular, information about a large existing adoption stock generates a positive effect on adoption only under moderate customer uncertainty combined with sufficient homophily; in other levels of uncertainty and/or homophily the effects range from null to negative. This is the first direct test and demonstration of the intricate role of information about a large stock of adoption in the new product diffusion process, and carries direct implications for marketers
