Due to the great interest stimulated by first Golf and Business course, Dr. Ilan Rahimi, head of the specialization in Technological Entrepreneurship, and Mr. Rafi Glick (who is also a golfer), have decided to offer the course to graduates Ono Academic College and their spouses. The course will begin in early October at the golf courses in Caesarea and Ga‘ash, and be accompanied by businessman Barry Shaked, chairman of the Israel Golf Federation and founder of Retalix. Shaked will deliver the opening lecture on “Golf and Business” because of his broad experience in both golf and as founder of a hi-tech company, Retalix.
The goal of the course is to provide graduates with the basics of golf, so they can master the game and derive personal pleasure and benefits in the business world. Golf generates social interaction that creates business. During the course, graduates will meet business leaders in person, and the game will serve as a bridge that spans gaps in age and experience. The golf clubs in Caesarea and Ga‘ash were happy to join the project (even helping financially) and pledged to make club facilities, including professional and volunteer instructors, available to participants. The club's professional manager Andy Santos will participate in addition to Barry Shaked and other businesspeople.
Studies at the club will include basic principles of golf such as: strategy, planning, implementation, accuracy, patience, responsibility, self-discipline, honesty, integrity, mutual respect, courtesy, concentration, functioning under pressure, inner serenity and striving for excellence, which are also components of success in business life. In the practical part of the course, students will learn the basic grip and swing, different types of shots and strategy, and have a chance to try out their skills on the course. Other subjects covered will include: the history of golf in the world and in Israel, the place of the golf in business, the dress code for golf, golf concepts, ethics of the game, familiarity with the set of clubs and more. On behalf of Ono Academic College, the course will be accompanied by Mr. Rafi Glick.
The course includes nine sessions, two devoted to theoretical material and meetings with business people, golfers and a panel on the “Game of Life,” and held at Ono Academic College. The other seven sessions, held at the Caesarea and Ga’ash golf courses, will focus on the practical fundamentals of golf. A tournament will be held at the end of the course to demonstrate the practical and theoretical knowledge and skills that participants have achieved. Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate of participation from Ono Academic College and the Israel Golf Federation, as well as three credits for enrichment courses.
The subsidized cost of the course will be approximately NIS 400 per participant. The course is subsidized by the Ono Academic College, the Israel Golf Federation and the golf clubs at Ga‘ash and Caesarea. During the course, participants will be given free access to training facilities and the use of free clubs for practicing and improving skills. Students who complete the basic course will be given the option of participating in an advanced courses that will be organized if there is sufficient demand.
