Dr. Yehonatan Shiman is a business law scholar specializing in corporate law & governance, regulation, compliance, and securities regulation. He focuses on these fields through the lens of corporate purpose and the role of business organizations in a democratic society.
Dr. Shiman’s scholarship examines board-level oversight and the evolution of fiduciary oversight duties as well as corporate misconduct. His work has appeared in leading journals such as the American Business Law Journal, the Cornell Journal of Law & Public Policy, and the Virginia Law & Business Review. His research has been cited by courts and featured on leading academic forums, including the Legal Theory Blog, Private Law Theory Blog, and The Chancery Daily.
Before entering academia, Dr. Shiman practiced at Gornitzky & Co., where he handled complex commercial matters involving cross-border mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and taxation. This experience informs his teaching and research on governance, disclosure, and regulatory design. Drawing on his transactional practice, Dr. Shiman teaches corporations, as well as seminars on corporate governance, antitrust, and income tax law. His courses integrate practical problem-solving with doctrinal analysis, encouraging students to test legal theory against real-world corporate and regulatory contexts. In 2024, Dr. Shiman received an award for excellence in teaching.
Dr. Shiman attended the University of Virginia School of Law where he received his LL.M. and S.J.D. He holds an LL.B. (Summa Cum Laude) from Ono Academic College. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Kiryat Hamishpat and volunteers as General Counsel to Restart Global (NGO).
