Therapeutic Dog Handling Students Practice on Ono’s New Campus

Students in Ono Academic College’s Bachelor of Arts program in Behavioral Sciences with a Specialization in Therapeutic Dog Handling, in conjunction with Doggart College, demonstrated some of their newly acquired skills and learning.

The exercise focused on developing eye contact in movement between the students and the dogs. It also reinforced the dogs’ motivation to work with their handlers and disconnect themselves from the environment, practicing discipline in the face of distractions in the environment, communication with the handler, and contact and conduct when meeting strangers.

The dog is not only man’s best friend, he is also a partner in therapeutic processes that help children, teenagers and adults deal with the hardships they experience. The dog is a partner in the treatment and counseling process and helps to make a difference in people’s lives.

The students themselves study and undergo comprehensive training to carry out activities and support in therapeutic, educational and rehabilitation interventions in accordance with different and varied therapeutic goals.
