Ono’s Occupational Therapy Students Focus on Simulation Center Training

More than a decade ago, Ono Academic College’s Department of Occupational Therapy developed a unique teaching model making extensive use of applied simulations. Students in their 2nd and 3rd years undergo practical training with simulated patients played by actors in a full spectrum simulation center  In these sessions the students learn communications, assessment and treatment skills required in various treatment settings. The training includes, among other things, receiving a new patient, conducting intake, filling out an occupational profile, passing on diagnoses and determining treatment goals together with the patient. In the simulation workshops, the students also participate in individual and group research and conduct self-reflection on their performances, re-evaluating them with other group members.

Every year the students’ feedback about their educational experience is very positive. They are very grateful for the opportunity to train in a safe and educational environment, being supervised by an experienced and professional team for optimal practical preparation before going outside of the college for their clinical training.

The Occupational Therapy Department would like to thank Ms. Hadar Daari and her team at Ono’s Simulation Center for the extensive and professional assistance in producing the simulation workshops.

Today, the OT students are able to gain experience in Ono Academic College’s new Simulation Center, one of the most advanced in the country. The extensive complex, with 16 simulation rooms and 3 debriefing rooms, is spread over the new campus’ Ground and Gallery floors. It trains students and professionals from the health professions as well as from the fields of business and education who come from Israel and around the world.
