Founder of Ono Ethiopian Center Speaks at Rabbinate Yom Hashoah Ceremony

Rabbi Dr. Sharon Shalom, the founder and director of Ono’s International Center for the Study of Ethiopian Jewry, spoke at the Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Memorial Day) Ceremony sponsored by the Israel Rabbinate, the Shalom Hartman Institute and the Creating Memory Foundation.  The event was entitled, “Trauma, creation and healing in the memory of the Holocaust” and also focused on the release of the book “Shnot Dor/Generational Years,” written by Martin Herskovitz.  The book presents a personal, emotional and compassionate narrative in the face of the Holocaust through a collection of Herskovitz’s poetry.

In his address, Rabbi Shalom related to the Holocaust as well as to the trauma and suffering endured by the Beta Israel, Ethiopian Jewry.  Other presenters included: Shmuel Klein, Prof. Judy Baumel Schwartz, Prof. Danny Brom, Rabbi Danny Segal and Orit Raz.
