Recently, one of Israel’s premier economic journals, Calcalist, published a profile of Esti Ohana, who graduated from Ono Academic College with a degree in law, and who has since had the distinction of being the first ultra Orthodox woman to clerk for Israel’s Supreme Court.
The article opens with a quote from Ohana, saying, “It is important that that there be ultra-Orthodox in the Supreme Court. It’s the place we are most afraid of.”
Regarding her work, Ohana said, “Friends raised an eyebrow, but I’m happy to be in a place where I mediate between the different worlds. . . I had to check to make sure this was real.”
