With her appointment to be Israel’s Minister of Absorption and Integration, Knesset Member Pnina Tamano-Shata has become the first Ethiopian to serve as a government minister in the Jewish state.  Israel Today has published an informative profile of Tamano-Shata, whose headline states, “That 3-year-old girl who came to Israel barefoot, without a mother, and after a very long trek, has finally made it.”  The article goes on to note the her law studies at Ono Academic College and her social activism on behalf of Ethiopian Jewry during this period.
