Adina Feldman at the Grammy's

Ono Faculty Member Reflects on Israel’s October 7th Story at the Grammy’s

Adina Feldman, the Director of the Department of Vocal Performance at Ono Academic College’s School of Music, took part in the 2024 Grammy music awards in Hollywood in a professional capacity as a new member of the Recording Academy.

In an article published in the Los Angeles Jewish Journal, Feldman tells her story of attending the ceremony under the shadow of post October 7th realities in Israel.  She described everyday life and its fears, including frequent rocket attacks and mad dashes for shelter and her worries about her three children serving in the IDF reserves, and not hearing from them for days or weeks at a time. In fact, her decision to attend the Grammy’s, despite the excitement and prestige, was a difficult one.

Feldman noted that in addition to being a professional musician at the ceremony, she also represented Ono and Israel in general and the hundreds of thousands who are fighting against Hamas.

Feldman described the disconnect she felt between the glamour of the evening and the turmoil in her heart because of the ongoing war. In a bizarre way, the “swag bags” that the Academy prepares for its members with sundry items like telephone chargers and nail files, reminded Feldman of the bags of personal supplies and toiletries that she and tens of thousands of others prepared for IDF soldiers.

Feldman concluded describing the moving tribute that the Grammy ceremony broadcast remembering the Israelis killed at the Nova Music Festival.
