Rabbi Sharon Shalom Speaks at Between the Lines: Between Word and Image | Living Genizah Session

Ono Ethiopian Scholar Headlines Storytelling Series

Rabbi Dr. Sharon Shalom, the Founder and  Director of Ono Academic College’s International Center for the Study of Ethiopian Jewry spoke at the second session of the series “Between the Lines: Between Word and Image | Living Genizah.” The meetings bring together leaders of the Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jewish) community for evenings of collective storytelling.

Dr. Shalom captivated attendees with his exploration of the Beta Israel holy scriptures, sharing canonical works that reflect the cultural, historical, and spiritual identity of the Ethiopian Jewish community. His writings serve as a bridge for continuity and truth.

Alongside Shalom, documentary artist Gideon Agaza presented a visual journey spanning two decades, capturing moments and stories that illuminate the community’s memory and identity.

Together, these creators, deeply committed to the spiritual narrative of Beta Israel, craft a living repository of tradition and truth, driven by internal identity rather than external labels. The evening was a powerful, honest, and moving celebration of the community’s story.
