According to Jewish tradition, on the fifth of Sivan, exactly 7 weeks after the Israelites left Egypt, the Israelites camped at the foot of Mount Sinai, where God appeared to them and in this sublime setting they received the Torah. This year, Shavuot falls out on the night of June 1st and the day of June 2nd.
Shavuot holiday customs include:
• Eating cheese and dairy foods.
• Decorating the house with flowers and plants.
• Reading the Book of Ruth.
This year, on Shavuot, we will continue to pray for the speedy return of all those who were kidnapped.
Happy Shavuot,
Rabbi Moshe Reiss
Diector of the Religious Zionism Department
