Article About Ethiopian Jewish Chaotic Thinking and Israel’s Independence Day Published by Times of Israel

The Times of Israel newspaper and website recently published an article by Rabbi Dr. Sharon Shalom, the founding director of Ono Academic College’s International Center for the Study of Ethiopian Jewry,

The article, “Ethiopian Jewish Chaotic Thinking Leads to ‘Hatikva/the Hope’,” explores how Israel can celebrate its upcoming Independence Day in light of the barbaric attacks of October 7th. It looks for guidance to classic Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jewish) philosophy which employs “chaotic thinking,” allowing one to transcend current difficulties in order to imagine a better future. Rabbi Shalom concludes with some thoughts on how to make Israel Independence Day more inclusive, in light of the fact that the war has clarified that all Israelis share one destiny.
