When President Biden’s Rabbi Met an Ethiopian-Israeli Orthodox Rabbi

 

The Jerusalem Post has published an article showcasing the wide reach of Ono’s faculty. Rabbi Dr. Sharon Shalom, the founding director of Ono Academic College’s International Center for the Study of Ethiopian Jewry, was recently on a tour of the United States, where he participated in a number of events and lectures. He also had the opportunity to speak by zoom with Rabbi Michael Beals, a Conservative Rabbi from the State of Delaware, who has the reputation of being the Jewish religious figure most frequently consulted by United State‘s President Joe Biden.

The discussion between Beals and Shalom was fruitful and they covered many fascinating topics including: Rabbi Shalom’s childhood in Ethiopia, Rabbi Beal’s recollections about the Yom Kippur War, efforts to bring Ethiopian Jews to Israel, and the role of Diaspora Jews in Israeli policy,
