Dr. Moty Amar, an expert in consumer behavior, was interviewed for an article in Globes about the assistance businesses offered to residents of southern Israeli during Operation Pillar of Cloud (Pillar of Defense): “The missile attack on Israel led to an attack of another kind: companies that sent dozens of e-mails to journalists, with the generic subject line, “Mobilization for the residents of the South.” The first to declare their commitment were promoters of tourism. One after another, they announced their willingness to host residents of the south at a discount. The question is, is 20% discount or, alternatively, a negligible number of free rooms reflects true solidarity, or cynical exploitation of the situation for advertising and public relations.”
