The Bionic Bowels group, led by Avinoam Gemer, an M.B.A. at Ono Academic College, developed a medical device to treat obesity instead of risky bariatric surgery. They placed first in Israel’s national entrepreneurial contest, BizTec. Development of the Bionic Bowel was supervised by Prof. Eitan Scapa, former head of the Department of Gastroenterology at Asaf Harofeh Medical Center. The group is currently in the process of raising funds, prior to beginning clinical trials.
