The Bionic Bowels venture led by developer Avinoam Gemer from Ono Academic College, placed first in the qualifying round of the Intel Challenge and will represent Israel at the Intel European Challenge to be held in Poland during September. The European competition is part of a global competition sponsored by Intel and UC Berkeley for young entrepreneurs, both students and graduates. During the competition, young entrepreneurs meet with venture capitalists and leading European hi-tech executives. Those finishing in the first three places will be awarded $50,000 and continue onto the international competition in the United States. Bionic Bowels is developing a medical device for the treatment of diabetes and obesity, intended to replace surgical procedures while allowing patients to eat as much as they want and still lose weight. The venture won first prize in BizTEC Israel, qualifying it for the European competition.
