The International Center for the Study of Ethiopian Jewry is hosting the fourth installment of a monthly program, which combines the traditional Beta Israel coffee ceremony with stories and learning about Ethiopian Jewry.

“Café Buna” is a ceremony of great social importance in Ethiopian culture and the Center will mark upcoming Rosh Chodesh (New Moon) holidays with meetings to discuss issues related to Ethiopian Jewry.

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 12:30 the next session of Café Buna will take place at the International Center for the Study of Ethiopian Jewry in Room 501 of Ono Academic College.

The program will focus on Jerusalem Day, marking the reunification of Israel’s capital, which took place in 1967. The holiday, celebrated earlier this week, and Jerusalem itself, is of great significance of to Bete Israel, who, for millennia, pined to return to the holy land. For this reason, Jerusalem Day was chosen to commemorate the Bete Israel immigrants who perished on their journey to Israel from Ethiopia.
