
Rabbi Dr. Sharon Shalom, founder and director of Ono Academic College’s International Center for the Study of Ethiopian Jewry, recently travelled to the SAR School in Riverdale, New York, where he delivered a captivating talk to students and faculty. His visit focused on his personal journey, the heritage of Ethiopian Jewry, and pressing contemporary issues, leaving a lasting impression on the school community.
During his visit, Rabbi Dr. Shalom shared his remarkable story of Aliyah from Ethiopia to Israel, offering students a firsthand perspective on resilience and cultural adaptation. He also addressed timely topics such as the October 7th attacks, rising antisemitism globally, and the collective trauma affecting Jewish communities. Drawing on his recent service as a Casualty Care Officer in the IDF during the Iron Swords War, he spoke movingly about supporting bereaved families, connecting these experiences to broader themes of Jewish identity and solidarity.
