Introduction by Prof. Tova Hartman

Dean of the School of Education, Professor Tova Hartman reflected on the start of the Spring 2025 semester, following the end of the major holidays of the three monotheistic religions.  Jews, Muslims, Christians, Druze and others play significant roles in Ono’s School of Education, both as students and faculty.

Student Profile: Lorena Khateeb

Lorena Khateeb is  a young Druze woman studying in the program who has become a leading activist in Israeli advocacy in recent years. Since the start of the Iron Swords war, she has been working tirelessly, while also finding time to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education at Ono Academic College.

“Difficult, Challenging, But Being Part of Something Greater than Ourselves”

As part of their final project in a research course, Adi Tanami and Chen Danino, who are pursuing Master’s Degrees in Education with a specialization in Organizational Management, interviewed their friend, who is married to a reservist soldier. This soldier has been fighting continuously for over a year and a half. The interview focused on the impact of his service on their relationship and family life, spanning over a year and a half.

“The Book Was Written Truly from the Blood of My Heart”

For many years, Dr. Naomi Landau-Halbertal, a lecturer at Ono Academic College, researched the systematic sexual violence against women as part of genocidal practices. Then came October 7th, and with it, a new book “In the Jaws of the Patriarchy” that explores the past while engaging with the present.

“Talking About It in the Living Room”

This article describes a unique series of meetings with leaders in the field of expressive and creative arts therapies which sparks deep emotional processes and allows participants to dive into unique worlds.

The program is facilitated by Dr. Michal Lev, a lecturer in Ono’s Art Therapy program, and Prof. Vivien Marcow Speiser, Professor Emerita of Lesley University who founded the arts therapies programs at Ono.

In the first meeting in the series, “Ono Salon – Conversations with Pioneers of Art Therapy,” the facilitators held a public conversation with Professor Shaun McNiff, a pioneer in the field of expressive arts therapies. The discussion with McNiff reflected his character—informal, accessible, warm, and friendly—illustrating his worldview. Concepts he coined, such as Trust the Process, Slipstream in Group Work, and Art is the Evidence, were explored in a deep and inspiring discussion, emphasizing that creativity is not just a tool but an entire way of life.

The program has fostered conversations with other pioneers in the field and created an art exhibition.
