In an interview with the ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) newspaper “Hameveser,” Professor Yaron Zelekha said that the failure of Israel’s economy originates in the corridors of power, and in the connection between political power and capital. He claims that the ultra-Orthodox population contributes disproportionally to its numbers but the government uses economic policy to discriminate against it. Zelekha blame ills of the Israeli economy on the government’s socio-economic policy that gives preferential treatment to 19 wealthy families who control the economic pyramids and oligopolies of the Israeli economy.
