On the Ha’aretz website, Dr. Talya Miron-Shatz, head of the Ono Center for Medical Decision Making, explains that the way technological advances for freezing human egg cells are presented may be a source of false hopes. Although the technology is a genuine breakthrough in fertility treatment, there are limitations on its effectiveness. In order to take full advantage of their potential, the frozen eggs must be used at an age when natural conception is still likely, preferably close to 30, and certainly by age 35. Freezing eggs at age 40 is more likely to create an illusion that ends with painful disappointment.
