Ono Student and Olympic Competitor Comes in 5th<\/sup>\u00a0in World Judo Championship<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Timna Nelson-Levy, an Israeli judoka (competitor in the sport of Judo) recently finished the World Judo Championship with a fifth place showing.  Nelson-Levy noted that it was \u201cnot the result I came for, but with my remarkable team, better days will come.  She went on to thank her coaches, sponsors, and Ono Academic College where she studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As noted in Wikipedia, Timna Nelson-Levy competes in the under 57 kg weight category in Judo, and has won a bronze medal in the 2016 European Judo Championships. She represented Israel at the 2020 Summer Olympic games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nelson-Levy is the daughter of American-born parents Shmuel and Laura,  who immigrated to Israel in 1985, several years prior to her birth.  She was born in Israel\u2019s capital city of Jerusalem. Before Judo in her early teenage years, Timna\u2019s first sports as a child were Jujutsu and mixed martial arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On October 10, 2015, Nelson-Levy won her first significant medal in a senior competition when she received a bronze medal at the ‘European Open\u2019 in Lisbon, Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 21, 2016, she participated in the European senior championships for the first time and won a bronze medal. She defeated Anna Borowska of Poland in the first round, Hedvig Karakas of Hungary in the 16th round and lost to Nora Gjakova of Kosovo in the quarter finals. She went on to defeat Viola Waechter of Germany to reach the bronze medal match where she defeated Helene Receveaux of France by ippon (the definitive throw in Judo in which a contestant throws his\/her opponent to the mat with “considerable force and speed” so the opponent lands “largely on his\/her back.”).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nelson-Levy represented Israel at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Competing in the women’s 57 kg weight category, Nelson-Levy stated at the round of 16, beating the Serbian 2020 European under-21 champion Marica Peri\u0161i\u0107 after a more than 10 minute long match. In the quarter finals, she lost to Japanese 2018 World champion Tsukasa Yoshida. Next, Nelson-Levy faced Slovenian 2021 European championships silver medalist Kaja Kajzer. While she was defeated, Nelson-Levy finished the competition in 7th place.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
